From the grounds of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, Japan, these MATSU
(Japanese pine trees) are evergreen and symbolic of long life, happiness and fortune
in Japan. Samurai had often asked artists to paint MATSU trees as a means of wishing
for long life and victory. They are amazing
to see and I was especially attracted to how their shapes merged together.
