Washington, D.C.--Wouldn't it be cool if you didn't have to pay for an on-line service to get the advantages of all its complete information in one place? Now you don't need to. You can access Old Town Crossroads today to find a complete job bank, information about greek life, entertainment, news, reference resources, and more.
The site can be accessed at http://www.gic.net/xroad.html on the web. A "graphical Yahoo" with a difference, Old Town Crossroads is an imaginary world laid out as a 3-dimensional, interactive town. Additionally, the site itself caters to every net user and is no way geographically limited by any specific town. It is the morphing of the best aspects of many real places.
Old Town Crossroads attempts to provide a stable and well-known place for you to stop (or start) your Internet adventure. This site aims to evoke familiarity and comfort by catering to more than just the computer science department.
"We continually update our site content with current links while, at the same time, keeping up with the latest technology," says David Goldstein, President of Graphic Imaging Corporation. "Ours is an on-line community that strives to be easy to use and functional."
Since new links and content are continually being added, Old Town Crossroads will be different on each visit. Repeat trips will be worth your while. The site was designed for entertainment value with stops such as the cinema (with links to movie and TV sites), but other popular stops are the university (with a career center and job bank, campus life section, and financial aid department) and the radio station (featuring links to popular bands' home pages). You can also register as a citizen of Old Town to make it your hometown (without parents).
In just its second month of existence, the Old Town Crossroads site was recognized in the industry as Tour D'Nets' D'Best (2/18/96), Click.Net's Site of the Week (2/21/96), Earth Link's What's Hot (2/21/96), and Honorable Mention as WLYN Radio's Link of the Week (2/26/96). The site was recently featured in NetGuide (3/12/96) and NetSurfer Digest (4/3/96).
Old Town Crossroads is a joint venture between systems consultant David Goldstein and graphic artist Tom Epps. The two teamed up in 1994 to work on the project. The site can be accessed at
